Acrochordon as a marker of metabolic syndrome – A cross-sectional study from South India

Objectives: To determine the association of acrochordons with metabolic syndrome and its components. Materials Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 100 patients acrochordon age- gender-matched controls who attended dermatology outpatient department a tertiary care center South India from January 2017 to December 2017. detailed dermatological examination carried out cases respect distribution, number, color, morphology acrochordons. Blood pressure (BP), pulse rate, waist circumference, height, weight, body mass index were recorded all controls. Fasting lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, liver function test, renal test done participants. diagnosis made based on International Diabetes Federation worldwide definition specified for Asian population. Statistical analysis using Pearson’s Chi-square test. Results: There 52 females 48 males each group. About 80% belonged age group 20–50 years. significantly higher number had ( P < 0.001). Acrochordons showed significant components such as high BP 0.001), plasma glucose levels low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol = 0.04).
